Cool in Culottes
Say hello to Culottes. They ARE, yes ARE amazing… or at least they can be! I see you giving me side eye, but just stop for a second and give them a chance. Personally, I’ve been into the long shorts/short pants trend for a while. These were welcomed to my closet last April in 2013 and I’m kind of floored this is their blog debut!
I realize Culottes are on the trendier side at the moment, but this is certainly not their fashion foray. Worn way back in the day, and by that I mean The Renaissance, culottes were sported by upper class Frenchmen. Women couldn’t let men have all the fun so ladies adapted these fancy (shorter) pants during the Victorian era for practical reasons. Nevertheless, with style and it’s ever evolving road map they started becoming popular for everyday attire in the 20’s and 30’s.
So why have they made their way back into the scene now? Well, I don’t know… but let’s just say I’m happy about longer hemlines; they’re super chic! With culottes, depending on dimensions, they fall somewhere in the glamorous menswear zone. This pair is on the fuller side and is a shape I’d recommend for the feminine gal or someone who’s unsure of where to start in this trendy territory. Most people thought I was wearing a skirt until I pointed out the difference!
Pairing light colors like white and grey keep this look modern and fresh, which just happens to be another summer trend. Pops of color are found here in my lipstick and sunglasses. Those warm tones play off the metallic accessories for the perfect punch. So what’s my biggest tip when wearing culottes? Confidence, of course! That little gem always gets you the biggest bang for your buck, so no matter what you’re wearing you’ll ALWAYS be cool…
